Mixed metal compounds of the Ruddlesden-Popper-series obey the following general formula:

An+1 Bn X3n+1 or (A X) (A' B X3)n (n = 1, 2, 3, ...)

The notation 0201, 0212, 0223, etc. is quite often used for compounds of this series,
where n = 1, 2, 3, ... respcetively.

The end members of the series correspond to

  • the NaCl structure (n = 0; AX) and
  • the Perovskite structure (n = infinite; A'BX3)
