Macintosh-Software

QuickTrace (by Rainer Petschick) is a tool to reconstruct source data by tracing them from plotted diagrams as shown in presentations. QuickTrace reads the pointer coordinates on the screen and computes them into original cartesian (x,y), ternary (x,y,z), or polar (stereographic) values (angle of azimuth and plunge). To reveal data as accurate as possible, you should have a 17 inch, or better 20 inch monitor and a digitizing tablet. Alternatively, you can trace data points from scanned bitmapped PICT's (loaded via file or clipboard) shown on the screen.

LogGenerator (by Rainer Petschick). A simple Log Generator - conctruct one-page profile logs on the base of tab-formated TEXT spreadsheets loaded or pasted into SediTools. Its structure:
Layer info left hand (TAB) thickness (TAB) bulge value (TAB) pattern value (1-38) (TAB) layer info right hand
You can directly change each entry. There are some variations to change the log graph (inversion, bulge degree, bulge inversion, smoothed layers, profile width, y labels, a.o.). You can print, save or copy your results as vector based PICTs in normal or in 500% scaled high res quality.

MudMaster is a computer program, developed at the U.S. Geological Survey and written by D. D. Eberl, V. Drits, J. Srodon and R Nuesch, that calculates crystallite size distributions and strain for minerals from X-ray diffraction data. This program was developed to measure particle size distributions for minerals in rocks and soils, because particle size data may yield geological information about a mineral's provenance, degree of metamorphism, degree of weathering, etc. Click here for further information.

MacGresens A MacIntosh program of the Gresens method which allows quantitative study of volume change and mass transfer of chemical components in rocks during alteration processes. The program is available free to interested users. DOS-Software

this ones are for the purists: real DOS command line applications, no user interface, no mouse, no options but easy and efficiently to use.

Programs without source code:

RAW2XDA is a free utility that reads in a user specified directory and converts all SIEMENS RAW-files living there into XDA-files used by several Rietveld programs. All PC-versions of RAW-files are supported. Scans made with theta-compensating slits can be recalculated to fixed-slit geometry.

This ones come from outside:

FARHAN (1998) is a Search-Match Identification and Quantification PC program.
Up to seven phases can automaticlly be identified and quantified. The program allows 2theta-I and d-I diffractogram display, editing and manipulation. The displayed diffractogram can be added to the user database. The program can quantitatively combine up to seven phases in the database i.e. simulate their diffractogram.
The program is graphically oriented and all it's parameters and functions are under user control. Thus, it can be used for x-ray research and education.
FARHAN was written by Dr. K. Al-Farhan, mcdigka2@stud.umist.ac.uk.
BinHex for DOS a program for reconversion from and conversion to Macintosh BinHex4.0 format (e-mails); (June 94) If somebody knows the authors, please let us know!
Pentium two programs from Intel and ZAT (the++) that check if your Pentium CPU is has the divison problem.
