This program serves the study of the INTERNATIONAL MORSE ALPHABET (as given in GROLIER: Book of Knowledge, 1964 ). The code is presented visually and acoustically via the PC-speaker.

symmetry in the Morse code

It is possible to use symmetry relations in the learning process of the Morse code. Instead of learning the 26 letters you then only need to learn 15.

I consider two symmetry relations, namely the MIRROR and the INVERSION. The MIRROR reverses the order of dots and dashes and the INVERSION changes a dash to a dot or vice versa. If you have a look at the list below you will understand how the codes on the left side are related to the ones on the right.

  MIRROR RELATION
 1 .- A N -.
 2 -... B V ...-
 3 -.. D U ..-
 4 ..-. F L .-..
 5 --. G W .--
 6 --.- Q Y -.--

  INVERSION RELATION
 7 . E T -
 8 .. I M --
 9 .-. R K -.-
10 .--. P X -..-
11 ... S O ---

  REMAINING LETTERS
12 -.-. C
13 .... H
14 .--- J
15 --.. Z
