Dear Sir, You can download the most recent PowderX and the User's Manual by FTP as described in the following: I hope every one who want to use PowderX program will send me the signed agreement for using PowderX by air mail. The last page of the User's Manual is the agreement. If you sign it, you will be informed about the bug fixes and updates of PowderX. In addition, if you find someone who is interested in this program, please tell them to contact with me directly. In addition, please send me e-mail with a reply-to address to single person, not the whole Rietveld mailing list. In addition, users should send me the following information about their Title, affiliations, mailing address and Tel. Fax numbers. July 9,2000 I changed the fonts in the User's Manual document, so that some fonts which cause problem in some computers are changed to "Time New Roman" font. Aug, 24-25,1999 PowderX can read Maximum 25000 data points. (HUBER Imaging Plate Guinier Camera 670 one can get a maximum of 20001 data points.) Change made to dispay two set of data in zoom plot for linear-algebra calculation. The references is added to the on-line help and the User's Manual. July 7, 1999 fixed a bug in reading RIET7 format data, and linear algebra of the data set is added under the menu "Calculation". The program can not fit in 4 disks, and the 5th disk have only 5K content now. June 29, 1999 The fine-Print routine has been change to fix bugs. Changes made to read *.CPI data with long sample name and data file from TsingHua (*.usr) with 3 lines header or without header. The Dhkl form has been changed to show all the text clearly. March 22, 1999 VB version Eracel (refcel) was added to do cell parameter refinement. The original Fortran version was obtained from Prof. Le Bail. There is a command button (refine cell) within the Dhkl form (below Menu Indexing), and it is only available (and visible) after you run Dhkl "calculation" and "peak match" first. If you do Treor after peak search, and a good result have been obtained. The Dhkl is automaticly shown with the indexed result (symmetry, a,b,c, alpha, beta, gama, but not the lattice type). Then you click on "calculation", and "Peak Match" button, the "refine cell" command button will be shown. Clicking on this button, the Eracel result will be shown. The reult have a section which can be used as the input text file for Eracel of Fortran version. Changes made for plot output by printer. It is not depends on screen resolution now. Changes made on the form color to make the forms looks bettter. Feb. 18, the subtoutine for read Siemens *.UXD data changed for reading data with file version 1(8I10) and file version2 data (8I8). Feb. 8, Two bugs fixed in saving XDD and Rietan data when intensity values larger than 32767. The tic increment and values in the plot have been changed to multiples of 5 or 10, according to suggestions of Dr.Nagappan Ulagappan (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) Feb. 2, 1999, Update infromation: Two minor changes have been made. The first one is the correction of the spelling mistake "Pickuk point" to "Pickup Point"; The second one is the setting change of the zoom plot windows. Jan. 10,1999, Update information: The routines to read siemens *.raw data file have been rewritten so that three different type *.raw data (begin with "raw ", "raw1.01" and "raw2") can be read by File -- Import Data -- Siemens (*.raw). Jan.8, 1999, Update information: The previous version has a bug in reading Siemens D5000 data, which result in a one-stepwidth error for 2theta valves and a zero intensity value for the last step. Now, this bug has been fixed. The save data as GSAS format has been changed too. The previous version has a error in the header line format, only the intensity data format is correct. If there is still problems with the GSAS data, please try to copy the first 2 lines from a GSAS sample data file, and then edit them according to your experiment conditions, keeping the line width unchanged. Jan. 7, 1999, update information: Changes have been made for windows sizes and positions in order to fit in the low resolution screen (800x600). (The recommended monitor resolution is 1024x768.) Now, PowderX can read multi-range *.raw data (begin with raw2) collected using Siemens D5000. The program author thanks for kind help from Dr.Gyorgy A. Lovas (Eotvos L. University) and Dr.Srebri Petrov (Univ. of Toronto). The routines for "Fine Print" has been changed, and high quality diffraction pattern can be plotted using a laser printer now. The zoomed plot window can be resized and printed out with high resolution now. Dec.28,1998.update information: Now, the PowderX can read and process the energy dispersive data from Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Last item the import submenu- Maestro ORTEC (*.chn). Dec. 27,1998: recent update: I have fixed a bug in reading Siemens *.raw data. It can read a sample data recorded on a new D8 Bruker diffractometer. The data was supplied by Prof. Armel Le Bail. The problem in reading RIE7 energy-dispersive data then write in X-Y two columns XRD data is solved. The "Bragg angle" which might be ambiguous is changed to "2theta angle of detector" as suggested by Dr. Lachlan Cranswick. ------------------------------------------------ Dec. 22,1998: update: The updated version of PowderX, which now can processing energy-dispersive diffraction data of RIET7 and CPI formats. In addition, the on-line help may be OK now. I improve the plot routines to make the resize window looks better. Printer output is changed too. ---------------------------------------------- First choice for users outside China: You can download all the zipped files from the CCP14 site: http://www.ccp14.ac.uk PowderX can be downloaded from: http://www.ccp14.ac.uk/ccp/web-mirrors/powderx/Powder/ For Chinese users: please try to use FTP if your have FTP tools. The best time for download should be 0:00 am to 6:00 am (Beijing time). My files is in a server. The host address is: ssc.iphy.ac.cn You can login with my user name and password. 1. You can try to use ftp, type "ftp ssc.iphy.ac.cn" when you are asked the user's name, input "chengdon" 2. Then input the password is "FDUHfduh". 3. Then change directory to PowderX: cd Powder. 4. Finally, you can download all the files here including program and the User's Manual by the following method: First, type "bin" to set the binary mode. then type "get PXALL.zip" . 5. With the password which I provided to you, You can use Winzip to extract the files to Disk1.zip-Disk5.zip, and then extract the disk*.zip to get the needed files. There is a User's Manual for PowderX. It is a word7.0 doc file in rtf format. The file information is in the read1st.txt. Please let me know if you received this e-mail. Your suggestions and comments for PowderX will be greatly appreciated. Best wishes, Cheng Dong
