The University of Caen and the ISMRA, have for long been involved in powder diffraction through the activities of several laboratories specialized in solid state physics and chemistry and associated to CNRS.

Many previous publications of these labs deal with X-ray as well as neutron powder diffraction. The Laboratoire de Cristallographie et Sciences des Matériaux, CRISMAT, and the Laboratoire d'Etudes et de Recherches sur les Matériaux, SIFCOM, are among the most publicative laboratory in France.

The CRISMAT also holds the Berkeley Texture Package by examples site.

The consequence of this involvement is an expertise in the quantitative texture analysis of many kind of materials, appreciable in the corresponding publications, and for which D. Chateigner has been asked to participate as co-editor to the Journal of Applied Crystallography, one of the International Union of Crystallography journalss.
