Operation of the 590 X-ray generator

Procedure for turning on the FR590 X-ray generator

  1. Make sure the cooling water is turned on (as well as the drain).

  2. Turn the key on the front panel to the "on" position. The system should do 2 quick diagnostic checks and green panel indicating "System OK" should become lighted.

  3. Press the X-rays on key. A little red light by this key should become lit.

  4. Press the Set kV key. You will be prompted at the message window for a voltage. Selection is done digit-wise, i.e. you first select the 10's place, press Enter then select the 1's place and press Enter. You should see the HV set point indicate your choice, and the generator will be increasing the voltage.

  5. Press the Set mA key. Select your mA value in a manner analogous to that outlined in the previous step.

  6. Follow the procedure outlined in the Safety Plan marked as Single Crystal Diffractometer Operating Procedure.

Turning off the 590 generator

  1. Press the Set mA key and choose a minimum mA value (05 mA).

  2. Press the Set kV key and choose a minimum kV value (20 kV).

  3. If necessary, turn the key to the off position to power off the generator.

  4. Allow the water to run through the system before turning off the cooling water.

Emergency Shutdown

To shutdown the generator in an emergency situation, turn the master key to the off position. To avoid a collision of the circles turn off the MAINS button on the interface which controls the CAD4-MACH.
