I'm a new user of GhostScript and hoping someone can help me out with something. I'm currently using the AFPL 6.50 release of GhostScript with the executables on a NT 4 machine for graphic conversion purposes, however, I'm not having much luck converting postscript images to GIF format. My syntax is good, I'm using the right device (ppmraw, supported by my version), and when I execute the conversion, things appear to go off without a hitch. When I check the output file, it has the GIF extension and the windows gif icon next to it--although, things are not what they appear. When viewed in a web browser, the image is broken and graphic editing software will not even recognize it as a valid GIF file when it tries to open it--the output file is binary but that doesn't help me out much. I tried using pnmraw as a device but it's still not showing me love. So, I just figured that GhostScript didn't support GIF format because of the copyright placed on GIF, despite reading in a thousand places that GhostScript does support it and knowing that a program called ImageMagick uses GhostScript for image conversion to GIF. So hell, I'll try converting the postscript images to JPG, using the jpeg device. The outcome was very similar to what happened with GIF conversion, everything looks like it's all gravey but when you open it, failure to recognize format. My guess is that those first fifty bytes in a file that tells the machine what type of image it is isn't right, however, I don't know what to do next. So, does anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me. I can be contacted at ryanm@sonomatech.com. Thank you for your time.
