Welcome to the POV related Ftp site at Oldenburg, Germany.
POV is the 'Persistence of Vision' freely distributable raytracer
written by a group of people on Compuserve called the 'POV Team', 
based on DKBTrace 2.12 by Dave K. Buck.
These directories holds a lot of POV related material - the original
and complete POV distributions, images, animations, scenes, objects,
tools and other related stuff.

If you are looking for a particular file, get the 'INDEX' or 'INDEX.Z'
(compressed format of 'INDEX') file, and use a simple text editor or
alike to search for a program from it. The first column tells you the
name of a file, and the second column lists its location, relative to
the pov-ray home directory.

Note to beginners:
 - Don't forget to transfer in binary mode !
   (command 'bin' or 'set type i' at the ftp prompt)

 - If you don't know how to unpack a certain archive, look into
   the pack/ directory for your system. We'll try to collect unpackers
   for all systems here in the future. Here's an (incomplete) list of 
   file name extensions and what you need to unpack these files:

   .lzh         - lharc or lha
   .lha         - lha
   .zip, .ZIP   - zip or unzip
   .gz, .z      - gnz zip (gzip/gunzip)
   .tar         - tar or untar
   .Z           - compress or uncompress
   .arj         - arj or unarj

The 'RECENT' and 'RECENT.Z' files contain a list of the last 7 days'
uploads, sorted from top (newest) to bottom. Empty lines denote a new
days.
