This directory contains the latest version of NIH Image, a public domain image processing and analysis program for the Macintosh. NIH Image requires a Macintosh with a color or grayscale display and at least 2MB of free RAM. A Win32 version is available from www.scioncorp.com and a Java version from rsb.info.nih.gov/ij/. More information is available on the NIH Image Web site at: HTTP://RSB.INFO.NIH.GOV/NIH-IMAGE/ Files names with a '.txt' extension are text files. Those with a ".hqx" extension are BinHex encoded and those with a ".bin" extension are MacBinary encoded. The best Mac program for downloading these files is Fetch (in the programs directory) or download them some other way (in text format) and use Stuffit or Compact Pro (also in the programs directory) to decode and uncompress them. For more information, read "ftp-primer.txt" in the documents directory. [contrib] A directory containing programs, images and macros contributed by users of NIH Image.
