Files needed  for implementing and running  DIRDIF  for unix computers
are available (partly as -.zip files) in directory: pub/dirdif/zipunix 
or as a compressend tar file ( dd.tar.Z ) in dir. : pub/dirdif/tarunix
or as many (not compressed) individual files in dir pub/dirdif/allunix

    - store these files into your directory ddroot/ddftp
    - make ddroot/ddftp your  'present working directory'

The tar file must be decompressed, see instructions in README.TAR .
The files from zipunix include many ddmake and ddimplem files.

    Then: read the file ddimplem.unix, it gives detailed
    instructions about how to implement DIRDIF on your computer.
    Here is a summary:
          - look at the ddmake-files  'ddmake.XXX' and select XXX=sg,
                      or any of the various computer options.
          - copy this file to: ddmake
          - chmod u+x ddmake   # to make it executable
          - ddmake             # to compile.

If you have downloaded files from zipunix, the appropriate  ddmake.xxx
file includes the unzip ( unzip imp, doc, f, .... ); for linux and dec
the ' unzip -L ' option is used to retain lower case file names. ( ! )

    Note: the unzip feature is available on most computer systems:
    if you have problems you may use individual files which are stored
    in directory allunix ( See README.ALL ) or the (large !) tar file.

The DIRDIF USER's GUIDE is needed for optimal use of DIRDIF:
please ask for it !
