File README.FTP How to get the DIRDIF files 27 Oct. 1999 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For introductory notes and a list of README.xx files, see file README. The DIRDIF system (programs, systemfiles, documents, testdata, etc.) is available via ftp or internet. The DIRDIF system will be stored in your local DIRDIF directory which is called: 'ddroot' . You will download the files into a subdirectory called: 'ddftp' . Make it your working directory. e.g.: =====> mkdir xxx/ddroot ; cd xxx/ddroot ; mkdir ddftp ; cd ddftp Get files by ftp as follows: =====> ftp ftp.sci.kun.nl =========user===> anonymous =====> cd pub; cd dirdif; prompt; bin; ls Note the directory names! Further instructions are given in next README.xx files. A. For unix computers (S.G., HP, Risk, Linux, Dec, Sun, Solaris....): A1 you can get files (including Fortran sources, via ZIP files) by: =====> cd zipunix; mget * ; quit Then: read file README.UNIX . ( See also README.CC ) A2 Alternatively, if you cannot unzip, we have a compressed tar file: =====> cd tarunix; mget * ; quit First read file README.TAR, and retreive individual files. Then: read file README.UNIX . ( See also README.CC ) B. For MSDOS PC's (386, 486, Pentium, ...) you can get files (including executables for DBOS, via ZIP files): =====> cd pc; mget * ; quit Then: read file README.PC . ( See also README.CC ) X. For all computers (unix, VAX, .... MSDOS PC (386, 486, Pentium)): this option is mainly used for inspection of single files, and for distribution of individually (corrected) files. Getting all files from either directory allunix or allpc costs more transport time. Read file README.ALL for more details. > You can get selected individual files files via ftp: either=====> cd allunix (for source files, etc., not MSDOS PC !) or=========> cd allpc (for executables, and DBOS.ZIP for PC !) and then===> get ?filename? ; quit > For instance, if you only want to read what DIRDIF is all about: either====> cd allunix; get dirdif.primer; get dirdif.readme; quit or========> cd allpc ; get dirdif.pri ; get dirdif.rea ; quit In most cases the DIRDIF system is implemented/generated/installed by entering (while being in directory ddroot/ddftp) 'ddmake' or 'install' ( see various files README.XXX and ddimplem.XXX for details ). Note: The DIRDIF USER's GUIDE is needed for optimal use of DIRDIF . For newcomers in DIRDIF wonderland: welcome ! Just download the system, see how DIRDIF works, read the file 'ddroot/dirdif.readme', and, please, > e-mail your registration to ptb@sci.kun.nl > with your postal address, > and brand of computer(s) you are using. For old DIRDIF users: > also e-mail your re-entry to me ! Thank you. ==================================================================== Prof. Paul T.
